Rinse and Repeat

I seem particularly vulnerable to earworms these days. And they bubble up from every age and stage of my life. They drive me crazy sometimes, but I also don’t so much mind because I love to sing, so singing through the day isn’t too bad (although my neighbors might disagree … ). So, I thought I’d make a list post of all the earworms I can remember from the last week. This isn’t all of them, mind you, but it’s some. And I really do love to sing, but this … it might be excessive.

  • The Long and Winding Road
  • Yesterday
  • Guns and Ships
  • My Shot
  • It’s Quiet Uptown
  • Wichita Lineman
  • Smoke on the Water
  • In Your Eyes
  • WAP
  • Dancing Queen
  • Still Crazy After All These Years (thanks, Raivenne!)
  • Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves
  • That’s the Night that the Lights Went Out in Georgia
  • Hold Up
  • Soldier of Love
  • Victim of Love
  • Black Parade
  • Radioactive
  • Creep (Stone Temple Pilots and Radiohead)

(And I have to point you to this excellent video of this excellent little one performing “Creep” at school. I love everything about this.)

  1. Earworm…I’ve never heard that term before, but it’s perfect! I love using lists within slices–you can get so much information across that way. The little girl singing “Creep” was too adorable/funny/inappropriate all at the same time!

    1. I love that little girl. She’s so serious and adorable and excellent … and it’s also kind of weird that she’s singing that song … perfect little video! 🙂

  2. I love, love, love this eclectic mix. I also can’t stand you right now. I think I had finally gone a couple of weeks without thinking about “Hamilton” and I’m now back down that rabbit hole! Oh! And classic Cher – “Dark Lady” was an earworm for a couple of days last week. Sade came up in my iTunes yesterday. I had Paul Simon’s “Call Me Al” run through as well.

    1. “Dark Lady” is one of my favorite Cher songs! For some reason, though, it’s always “Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves” that gets on a loop in my head, particularly the “Picked up a boy just south of Mobile,” verse!

  3. Two things: (one) the only thing looping through my brain right now are Hamilton lyrics – my daughter and one of my sons are obsessed, and if it’s the only thing to get kids awake enough for school, well, then that’s what we play, and (two) I heard a “study“ saying that the best way to un-earworm yourself is to do anagrams: slime, limes, miles, etc. So, if it’s a not-so-great earworm, it’s worth a “shot”. 😂
